Prisons are meant to be scary, powerful looking places, while Toontown is meant for fun and childlike enjoyment – how is this reflected in the lines and angles of the buildings?
Prison buildings are generally straight and standing at right angles, most of which resembles large or stretched out cubes with long prisms. This gave it the menacing feeling to a person’s mind. Toontown, on the other hand, are curvier, with the prism-like shapes having a slight bent, along with circular pillars. Much of the buildings are not entirely straight, nor is it at a right angle, giving it a much more fun and childish feeling.
How does the sense of scale reflect the different purposes of the prisons and Toontown?
Prisons are made to appear very large, to accommodate the different prisoners inside and to give it an overall intimidating appearance which repels other people from visiting. Even the conical towers were very tall and wide, making it appear very fortified. The buildings in Toontown, however, are generally shorter and smaller as there is no need for large spaces or fortification. The size made it less intimidating and even the larger buildings are towered by the smaller prison buildings.
